Welcome!

My name is Michelle Hunniford and I am a chicken scientist!  More specifically, I am an applied ethologist and animal welfare scientist.  I completed my PhD in Poultry Behaviour and Welfare at the University of Guelph in 2017.  Since October of that year, I have been the National Animal Care Specialist for Burnbrae Farms.

I have created this blog to share some of the fascinating things I have learned about chickens.  Topics will range from their ability to see ultraviolet light to what goes into chicken feed; how to measure animal feelings to chick moving day; how to vaccinate a chicken to the different types of pecking behaviour.  If you have any burning questions about chickens, let me know!
